The doshas in our body can be well compared with a tree. A tree tends to grow even if its branches are chopped off unless it is completely uprooted. Similarly the vitiated doshas keep on increasing in the body unless they are removed from their very root. Panchakarma helps remove these vitiated doshas from their very root and promotes health.

What you need to know
‘Panchakarma’ is a Sanskrit word in which ‘Panch’ means ‘Five’ and ‘Karma’means ‘Therapy’. This implies, five types of therapies are used for detoxification, purification, and elimination of impurities and toxins.
Purification or elimination is a natural process of the body. The body’s natural process of elimination gets hampered when the physiology is fully loaded with toxins generated from unhealthy food and lifestyle. Panchakarma plays a significant role in excretion of these toxins by cleansing the several channels in the body.
Panchakarma can also be done periodically for prevention of disorders or to maintain a steady state of health. One usually tunes, services, cleanses, lubricates a car engine for it to run in a good condition without rusting. The same principle should be applied to our physiology: Periodical cleanse for optimal health.
Panchakarma is an altogether individualized and customized approach. The type of panchakarma treatment to be prescribed depends on the constitution, status of the Doshas, Dhatus (Tissues), the strength of the Agni (Digestive Fire), and many other factors.
